Dental implants in Montreux: a medical decision above all

Losing a tooth is a common situation. Today, dental implants are the most reliable replacement solution — provided the indication is rigorously established and the protocol respects the patient’s biology.

At Dental Swiss Clinics, every implant decision begins with a comprehensive clinical evaluation. No systematic protocols — a response tailored to each situation.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is an artificial titanium root surgically placed into the jawbone. Once integrated into the bone — a process called osseointegration — it receives a crown that replaces the missing tooth in a stable and durable way.

When correctly indicated and placed, an implant can last for several decades.

The system we use

Dr. Zerguine exclusively uses implants from the Straumann Group — a global benchmark in implantology for over 60 years.
This choice is not insignificant: clinical documentation, material quality, and long-term reliability are the criteria that guided this decision.

Our philosophy — working with biology, not against it

My implant practice is based on a simple principle: respecting the existing bone capital.

I only work in biologically favorable situations — with sufficient bone volume, without resorting to xenografts or extensive bone grafts. This conservative approach is not a limitation — it is a clinical conviction. Intervening under good biological conditions guarantees better osseointegration and more stable results over time.

If the bone situation does not allow for placement under these conditions — I state it clearly to the patient and guide them toward the most suitable solution for their situation.

The two-stage protocol

In the vast majority of cases, I perform a two-stage placement:

Stage 1 — Implant Placement The implant is surgically placed in the bone. A healing period is necessary — generally 2 to 4 months depending on bone quality — to allow for complete osseointegration.

Stage 2 — Crown Placement Once the implant is well integrated, the final crown is created and fitted. This is the stage where digital dentistry comes into play.

This two-stage approach is not a constraint — it is the guarantee of a stable and durable result.

The crown on implant in a single visit — when possible

Thanks to CEREC, the crown on the implant can be created and fitted during the same session as the loading — intra-oral scan, design, and manufacturing at the clinic.

This option is offered when the implant shows sufficient stability and clinical conditions allow for it. It reduces the number of appointments and eliminates unnecessary temporary stages.

It is a rare combination — implant surgery and digital dentistry mastered by the same practitioner, at the same clinic.

What the initial evaluation includes

Before any implant decision, a full consultation is essential:

  • Rigorous clinical examination
  • Radiological analysis — evaluation of bone volume and quality
  • Evaluation of general periodontal health
  • Discussion of alternative therapeutic options
  • Presentation of the treatment plan and fees

The decision is always made together — taking into account the medical situation, expectations, and constraints of the patient.

Dental implants and anxious patients

Implant surgery is performed under local anesthesia — it is generally well-tolerated, including by anxious patients.

For patients who are apprehensive about dental care, a tailored session organization and a detailed explanation of the process significantly reduce anxiety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can everyone have an implant?

No — a clinical evaluation is essential. Bone volume, periodontal status, and general health are determining factors. Certain situations require prior preparation or point toward another solution.

Is the implant painful?

The placement is done under local anesthesia. Mild post-operative effects are possible in the first few days — generally well-managed with simple analgesic treatment.

How long does the full treatment take?

From placement to the final crown — generally 3 to 6 months depending on the protocol and the quality of osseointegration.

What is the lifespan of an implant?

A correctly placed and maintained implant can last for several decades. Regular follow-ups and oral hygiene are the key factors for longevity.

Why don’t you perform xenografts?

It is a clinical conviction. Working only in favorable biological conditions — without extensive bone grafting — guarantees better predictability of results and shows greater respect for the patient’s tissues.

Can the crown on the implant be done in a single visit?

In some cases, yes — thanks to CEREC. This option is evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on the stability of the implant and clinical conditions.
